While everyone else in the city is making their way to the fireworks on the river tonight, I'm getting myself geared up to pack. I hate packing. So blogging is a good way to put it off a little longer.
I'm heading up to Wasaga Beach on Friday with Candace and all of our kids. It's going to be quite an adventure. I've been to Wasaga Beach many times, but it's been years since I camped out there. Of course I have to qualify what I mean by camping. Camping to me is any place you stay voluntarily without air conditioning. Not that I'm a city guy, but really: I am a city guy. I know some people have more strict definitions that involve campfires, hiking and shovels, but I don't feel drawn to that. I like being outside and all, but I've been bred in captivity. My pale skin can't stand the harsh fresh air and golden rays of sunlight washing over me.
So we'll have tents and a campfire but also running water nearby and a DC inverter so I can power my computer in the minivan. I picked up a single cup coffee press (une petite cafetière) yesterday so that I can get my daily fix without too much trouble for anyone else. I'm trying it out right now and it's not too bad. The way the press works (or at least the way I used it) is that you just put the coffee grinds in the bottom of the travel mug then pour boiling water over them. Wait four minutes and then put the lid on. The lid has a mechanism like a plunger but with a screen filter on the bottom if you get what I mean. You push the plunger down and the grinds should all get pressed down to the bottom. It would be easier at this point if I didn't take my coffee with sugar and soy milk. I think I could have mixed that in when I put the grinds in, but I did it after. A pretty simple device, I think it'll do the job handily.
I kind of wanted to see the fireworks over the river tonight, it's a pretty big event here. Oh well, I can hear them starting already, and I should be able to see the high ones from my window. While I'm packing, of course...
